Birdbath clowns
We had at least twelve House Finches singing and playing (and eating!) in our yard today. I sat outside reading with my camera ready. These bird bath shots are especially cute.

Squirt made a new friend today – there was a squirrel climbing on our screen room. Finally, somebody with a tail as big as Squirt’s! Too bad Rich made him come inside. Goldy and Squirt are also starting to pay attention to the little warblers that hop on the ground close to the screen room. Their chips sound like miniature versions of the cardinal chip and that makes them very interesting to two house cats!
The painted buntings are back at Oakland Nature Preserve!
Birds Seen Today – Painted Bunting, Gray Catbird, Indigo Bunting, Tufted Titmouse, House Wren, Osprey, Blue Jay, Cardinal, Red-Wing Blackbird
ONP maintains feeders to attract the buntings…not the red-wing blackbirds!
The greedy bully bird chased away the female cardinal.
The gray catbird kept close but never went to the feeders.
I caught two of the most striking birds in the Oakland Nature Preserve sitting side by side.
The females chose to stick to their own feeder.
They also showed that it’s possible to share!
Later they were joined by a female Indigo Bunting.
A Tufted Titmouse came by but didn’t stay.
The House Wren dared to get a littler closer to us.
