Birds preparing for hurricane?

We had a very cheerful crew of customers at the feeders today. My mom says they had few birds about an hour south of here – we’re wondering if the birds know something we don’t about approaching Tropical Storm Faye! This Downy has been around, but not a regular visitor. We also saw a Loggerhead Shrike singing in Carla’s oak, several large flocks of red-wings and grackles (more than usual!), and what seemed to be bigger crowds of doves, house finches, and mockingbirds. So thanks to my in-laws for the new feeder! :-)

There’s a juvenile mockingbird turned very territorial in the backyard. Rich says we should call him Meanie Mock. He keeps chasing birds away from the feeders…lucky for them, they can always move to a different feeder in another part of the yard. Except for the house finches, who move away for a few seconds, then come back, chirping louder than ever!
