Meet My Hummingbird!

Posted 2 Comments

We’ve been seeing a hummingbird fairly regularly in the backyard.  At first I assumed it was a migrant passing through.  But now that it’s been a few weeks, I’m wondering if our visitor is going to stay for the winter.  (This blog post had better not jinx it!)

Regular readers of my blog will know that I’ve spent years growing a garden to attract hummingbirds.  It’s so rewarding when the birds show some appreciation! :)  We’ve had hummers visit on and off over the years.  This would be the first year that one stuck around for the season.

He’s a juvenile male – you can tell because his gorget (throat) is starting to turn red.  Even in the fading light after sunset, his feathers flashed a bright red when he turned his head just right.

I hope he sticks around.  I promised him that if he does, he’ll get more of his pictures posted on the Internet! :)

  1. My hummers disappeared around October last year, but then I noticed one hanging around later in the winter. I’ll keep the feeder out all winter, just in case!

  2. I’ve had one sweet hummingbird coming to my feeder everyday for weeks now. I too, hope my little guy hangs around for the winter;)

    Your pictures are beautiful!
