It’s the Great Pumpkin, Goldilocks!

Happy Halloween!

The cats and I convinced Rich to carve a cat-o-lantern again this year.  He does such a good job with them!  Goldilocks says the pumpkin is orange, just like her.  Whiskey wanted to call it a jack-o-loopy.  Squirt just sat on the grill and supervised.

I experimented with my flash in order to get a good shot of the jack-o-lantern.  I ended up on a low ISO and high aperture for a nice long exposure.  Then I added a quick burst of flash, with a mixture of red and orange gel.  The tea lights add a fun glow to the atmosphere.  I tried a bunch of shots, and this was my favorite.

I’ve started taking my camera on our evening walks again.  It’s getting dark so early now (and it’s not even standard time yet).  Our neighbors decorate like crazy for Halloween.  Since the end of August we’ve been seeing ghouls and vampires, fake cemeteries and witches stuck in tree trunks.  I’m not a big fan of the creepy-scary Halloween decorations, but I do like the cute Casper the Friendly ghost types of fun.

It wouldn’t be Halloween without a little Charlie Brown and his Great Pumpkin!  Our neighbors have great Peanuts displays for both Halloween and Christmas.

Here’s hoping that the Great Pumpkin visits you tonight!
