Races and Bobcats at the Circle B Bar Reserve

Posted 2 Comments

Dyeyo and I were excited to go to the Circle B Bar Reserve this morning after all the good birds that I saw there yesterday.  Until we saw the clouds.  And the runners.  There were hundreds of people gathered this morning to run a 5K race right up and down the trails.  Dyeyo and I spotted a Sora before the race began, but the runners scared it off.  It was disappointing for the bird club who did not get to see it.  I think it’s great to share the reserve with people who might learn to appreciate nature, but it’s upsetting to see the birds disturbed by the people.  Dyeyo and I almost left, but we decided to check out the Alligator Alley trail instead (it was not part of the race).  We were glad we did – we came across the bobcat in mid-trail!  It was Dyeyo’s first time to see him.  He posed nicely for us!

Bird Species List (22 total): White Ibis, Anhinga, Black-Bellied Whistling Duck, Blue-Gray Gnatcatcher, Common Gallinule, Common Yellowthroat, Double-Crested Cormorant, Eastern Phoebe, Gray Catbird, Great Blue Heron, Great Egret, House Wren, Limpkin, Northern Parula, Palm Warbler, Red-Bellied Woodpecker, Red-Shouldered Hawk, Red-winged Blackbird, Sora, Tricolored Heron, White-Eyed Vireo, Wood Stork

  1. I see it paid to go back Saturday! I don’t like you any more!!! :-)

Too bad about the runners. I don’t have a problem with CBBR sponsoring events like that, but I wish there was a website we could check to see what’s going on. I’m sure the bird club would have appreciate knowing there would be runners. I guess they figure the place is big enough to accommodate everyone. After all, you certainly didn’t leave disappointed with this shot!
