Experiments with Flash Photography

Posted

I just finished reading Mastering EOS Flash Photography, the reference guide on flash that I’ve been looking for for several years.  It explains all about the theory and principles of flash, as well as what Canon products are required for specific kinds of shots.  It’s an awesome book.

So when it rained this evening, I tried to apply some of my new knowledge.  First I tried some shots of Squirt, who is really hard to photograph with all the gray tones in his fur.  On my first shot, I forgot that I’d dialed in flash exposure compensation the last time I used the flash, so my shot came out extremely over-exposed.  After closer inspection, though, I decided that I almost liked it.  It reminds you of Squirt’s angelic behavior!

Here’s my favorite Goldy shot.  The room was pretty well lit with ambient sunlight, and then I added some fill flash, bounced off the ceiling, with an added catchlight.
